The
Great Morass is a critical
part of Negril's ecosystem
and
the Chamber has been in
the forefront of efforts
to ensure its preservation.
Professor
Edward Maltby, Chairman of
the Commission on Ecosystems
Management of the IUCN conducted
a scientific evaluation of
morass Peat Mining in 1985.
He returned in 2000 and presented
an updated assessment of the
Morass.
In
2001, NCC co-coordinated a
workshop with the NWC Advisory
& Monitoring Committee
to
discuss The Great Morass:
its Development an Sustainability.
Attended by Government Agencies,
NGO's and the business community
and facilitated by CWIP.
